Notifications Empty Notifications

Is there anyway to set up notifications when a new message gets posted on this site?
I know for a fact I'll go weeks with out checking in.

In the toolbar you can see "profile" you can adjust your notification settings there, not sure if it will email you everytime a topic is started, but it will alert you if you get a private message.
